STL and OBJ files carry no units, so they are read as millimetres — the convention every slicer and CAD tool uses. 3MF files declare their own units and are converted automatically. Volume assumes a closed, watertight mesh. Downloaded STL is written in the orientation shown here, seated on the bed, always binary and always in millimetres.
